Gudelių duona has been baking since 1993, out of a small bakery in the village of Gudeliai. It started with rustic rye bread, baked in a wood-fired oven - the same way our ancestors did it, and the same way we still do it today.

From that first rye loaf grew a full bakery: white and dark breads with seeds and fruit, formed loaves, butter cakes, cookies and buns.

How a loaf is made

Nothing about this process is fast - and that's the point.

  1. 01 · Sourdough

    Sourdough and the bread tub

    We leaven our dough naturally and let it ferment slowly in wooden bread tubs, the way village bakeries always have.

  2. 02 · By hand

    Every loaf by hand

    Every loaf is shaped by hand. No shortcuts.

  3. 03 · Fire

    The wood-fired oven

    Each loaf is slid on a wooden peel straight into the hot oven. Slow fermentation and the heat of burning wood give the bread its dense crumb and deep crust.

  4. 04 · The loaf
